How to Make the Perfect Bed

A National Sleep Foundation poll found that people who make their bed are 19% more likely to have a restful night’s sleep. On top of the benefits to your sleep, making your bed sets your day up for success, keeps your home feeling tidy, and helps make small spaces feel larger.
Of course, we can all just pull the comforter up to the pillows and call it a day, but to make your bed like the professionals at Cleandae, there are a few extra steps involved. Read on below and get ready to cozy up in your hotel-like bed.
Step 1: Gather your bedding
For a truly plush and inviting bed, you need to move beyond a single pillow, sheets, and a comforter. Consider experimenting by adding blankets, a duvet, and throw pillows to create that cozy space that hotels are known for. You don’t need to go crazy! The goal is to create a bed with different layers and textures that not only look good, but feel great.
Of course, don’t forget to wash your bedding before you put it on your bed. As a plus for our Cleandae customers, your cleaning service includes your cleaning team making your bed - all you need to do is leave us your clean bedding.
Step 2: Ensure your mattress is clean
Even with a mattress protector (a must!), your mattress can still benefit from regular cleaning. Luckily, it’s not hard to do; all you need is baking soda and a vacuum. Sprinkle baking soda all over your mattress and leave it on - all day is ideal, but at least for a few hours - and then vacuum it all up.
This helps break down odors and gives your mattress a clean feel, which is the perfect blank slate for your bed making.
Step 3: Grab your sheets
This is the part that most of us are familiar with. First, wrestle with your fitted sheet to get it on, then add your flat sheet on top (this is always easier with two people). To achieve crisp hospital corners on your flat sheet, simply fold each corner into a triangular shape and tuck it under the mattress. While you can do this for each of the corners of your mattress, most people just tuck in the bottom two.
Step 4: Add your blanket, duvet, or comforter (or both)
Next, we start adding in layers, first start with an optional blanket for warmth, underneath your comforter or duvet. A quick explainer on the differences between a duvet and a comforter:
A comforter is a single piece of bedding. It can be quilted or tufted, and it has some weight to it.
A duvet (shortened from duvet cover) is one part of a two-piece system. You have a duvet cover, that is then filled with a second fluffy insert (like a plain comforter).
If you’re concerned with spills or stains, a two-piece duvet system might be a better option, as when a mess is made, you only have to wash the duvet cover, instead of filling your wash with giant pieces of bedding.
On the other hand, if having to ensure that the duvet insert is smooth underneath the duvet cover sounds like a nuisance, maybe consider a comforter.
Step 5: Add layers
No matter if you have a comforter or duvet, to create a truly luxurious bed, you need to add layers. Consider adding shams and throw pillows that match your bedding, or a throw blanket at the foot of your bed.
However, only go as crazy as you're willing to commit to! With the goal of making your bed every day, you don’t want to overcomplicate it and deter yourself from hitting that goal every morning.
